This Just In.

The Germans, is the working title of a new band featuring Peter Coyne (Godfathers, Sid Presley Experience), Kris Dollimore (The Damned, Adam & The Ants) & Rat Scabies (The Damned). The band are currently recording their debut demos at Alaska Street studios in sunny Waterloo. Gigs are threatened for later this spring. Watch this space.

The A-Lines, the Medway’s premier all girl garage punk outfit, featuring Delia (ex-Rough Trade), Julie (ex-Stuck-Ups), (Kyra (ex-Headcoatees) & Debbie (ex-Headcoatees), have been gigging since Sept 2002. They will be entering the studios in the next couple of months to record new material with a view to releasing a 45 towards the summer. In the meantime, we very much recommend you catch one of their upcoming shows:

21st Feb – The Kills, The A-Lines – The Dirty Water Club, Boston Arms.

22nd March – The Buff Medways, The A-Lines - The Golbenkian, Canterbury.

The Raveonettes follow their recent shows with Joe Strummer, with their debut mini LP: “Whip It On”. A subtle blend of 60s US garage punk & 70s NYC punk produced by Richard “Instant Hit” Gottehrer (Blondie). The LP features 8 songs all recorded in the key of Bb Minor (which in itself, is no mean feat). “Attack Of The Ghost Riders” & “Cops On Our Tail” are the cream of this particular crop, but the thing as a whole has a wonderful symmetry that not only reverentially celebrates the past but also embraces a positive future. Again, no mean feat.

bikeshed have been kicking around since 1997 plying their particular blend of crunchy gtrs, obscure samples, edgy vocals & raw catchy tunes. They’ve been compared to ATDI, Mogwai & Idlewild, but maybe the observers witnessing the antics on those particular nights were simply fitted with cloth ears (OK, so maybe there IS a bit of Mogwai in there). bikeshed have attitude, humour & populist attraction in equal measure. Girl/boy vocals & an obvious ability to absorb contemporary influences provide the listener with gloriously militant moods for moderns. The band hope to return to the studio in early 2003 to record the follow up to their “Don’t Play These Games Around Here EP”.

conrad. hail from Plymouth & like nothing better than eating large helpings of Fugazi, Pixies, The Stooges, Sonic Youth, Minor Threat, Burning Airlines, Les Savy Fav (amongst many others) & puking up hulking great slabs of noize like the “in resonance EP” on Bibonte Records. The sum of their influences plus interest, conrad. have already supported the likes of Thisgirl, Tyler & Favez as well as appearing on the soundtrack to a BMX video.
